Philanthropy and community service has always been an important part of my life, however I wanted to focus on these things within a group. because I wanted to bridge the gap between service and sisterhood in my life. This program is often brought to shelters, community centers, schools and hospitals to aid them in their efforts to meet some of the educational needs of the youth that they serve. Children are provided with the means of completing their homework assignments so that they may remain current and up-to-date on course projects and requirements. Operation BigBookBag- serves as an invaluable resource to the children by affording them access to school supplies and tools that will help them in their educational endeavors. Held on the second Saturday of March by each Alumnae Chapter, simultaneous Sigma Youth Symposiums address issues that affect teens today. Sigma Youth Symposium-sponsored in conjunction with and in commemoration of Sigma Week in March, the Sigma Youth Symposium focuses on some of the prevalent concerns that negatively impact our youth: drugs, teen violence, abuse, low self-esteem, suicide, teen pregnancy, etc. Project Cradle Care-is a prenatal education and resource program seeking to improve high risk pregnancy outcomes in communities by increasing the number of women of childbearing age who receive adequate prenatal education and care. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority member and Olympic Gold Medal Winner Maritza McClendon is the National Spokesperson for the partnership. Chapters may help promote SWIM 1922 in their local communities by providing Swim Clinics or partnering with a local agency to help provide swim lessons. and USA Swimming has provided swim clinics in various cities throughout the USA. Their Founders wanted to be able to offer resources to individuals in every phase of education. They were dedicated to the youth that they served and sought to enrich their lives.
